Rembrandt’s major painting, ‘Self-Portrait with Two Circles’ (c.1665) is the centrepiece of an exhibition of self-portraits that includes works by Francis Bacon, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Lucian Freud and Pablo Picasso, as well as contemporary artists such as Urs Fischer, Richard Prince, Cindy Sherman and Rudolf Stingel, among others. A new work created by Jenny Saville in response to Rembrandt’s self-portrait is being exhibited for the first time.

Hirst’s 1991 artwork, ‘With Dead Head’ features in the exhibition. The piece – a photographic print on aluminium – shows a teenage Hirst at Leeds anatomy school, which he regularly visited to make life drawings.
