Context

This stainless-steel pill cabinet, dating from 2007, was sold as part of the (RED) charity auction organised by Hirst with the musician Bono, in association with Sotheby's and Gagosian Gallery in 2008. All proceeds from the sale went to the United Nations Foundation to support HIV/AIDS relief programmes in Africa conducted by the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

The cabinet contains identical clusters of three antiretroviral pills used to treat HIV/AIDS. The same collection of drugs is depicted in Hirst’s ‘Fact’ painting ‘HIV AIDS, Drug Combination’ (2006), which was also sold at the (RED) auction and which was exhibited together with ‘Where There’s a Will, There’s a Way’ as part of ‘Requiem’, the major 2009 exhibition of Hirst’s work at the Pinchuk Art Centre, Kiev.
